Krystal Isbister

University of Alberta

Krystal is a settler scholar born and raised in Kwanlin/Whitehorse, Yukon. Her primary interests are in northern disturbance ecology, especially how people and plants interact in industrially disturbed places. After completing her M.Sc. in Plant Science in 2017, Krystal established FloraTek Consulting. She works with First Nation, corporate and public sector clients, providing technical and training services in applied plant ecology and ecological restoration. Krystal began pursuing a PhD in Land Reclamation at the University of Alberta in 2020, to study challenges she was experiencing in her work. Krystal’s research focuses on the meanings of reclamation "success" in the Yukon and how local expectations can be better incorporated into reclamation policy and practice.
