Durban University of Technology

I have an MSc in Environmental Science. My PhD in Ecology is close to completion. My previous experience includes Environmental management in industry and at local government, in the water sector, including environmental impact assessment and environmental compliance. I have been teaching Environmental Sustainability and Conservation, in the Department of Horticulture at the Durban University of Technology in South Africa for the past 13 years.  My main research specialisation is ecological risk assessment and water resources management. In addition, I collaborate on projects focusing on invasive species and associated risks to ecosystems,, and education in sustainable development. My interest in ecological restoration is intended to integrate concepts and principles of ecological restoration into my teaching and research interests, to promote successful implementation of restoration interventions using ecological modelling tools and field techniques. Attending SER 2023 in person provides me with an excellent opportunity to learn from the leading practitioners and experts in the discipline, to develop my knowledge and skills in restoration. I am particularly interested in projects partnering with local communities, as I believe that our local communities are the best custodians to ensure successful ecological restoration.
