Ana Mendes

University of Évora

After the degree in biology and master on natural resource management, I have been mainly involved in the creation and development of European cooperation projects in the area of restoration of degraded areas, both at National, European and International level (China). I highlight the experience of more than 15 years with multidisciplinary teams from different universities and national and foreign public entities in the field of restoration of freshwater ecosystems (particularly rivers and wetlands). I emphasize the experience in team management and added value in international experience as an expert on the Intergovernmental Platform for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services and the Ramsar Convention. On the past 6 years I have been coordinating the area of "Restoration, Ecosystem Services and Biodiversity" of the China Europe Platform for Water. Also of relevancy is the recent public work on  Towards a legal definition of ecological restoration: Reviewing international, European and Member States' case law (RECIEL 1- 15. doi:10.1111/reel.12476). I am an invited member of Society for Ecological Restoration Law group, contributing to the revision of new proposal of Nature Restoration law.
